Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Tammam Salam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon

The Secretary-General met with Mr. Tammam Salam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon. They noted the importance of continued united international support for Lebanon's security and stability and the critical need for greater assistance to help Lebanon meet the exceptional challenges it faces in the security, humanitarian and economic areas as a result of the continuing impact of the conflict in Syria, including fighting the threat of extremism and terrorism and addressing the needs of refugees and host communities.

They welcomed the ministerial meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon in the margin of the General Assembly as an opportunity for the international community to reiterate its support and commitment in this regard.

The Secretary-General commended Prime Minister Salam for his leadership and expressed his sincere hope that Lebanon's political leaders will act for their country's stability to ensure that presidential elections are held without further delay.
